The next Flash movie already had a fan in its corner when James Gunn called it “probably one of the greatest superhero movies ever made,” but now an unexpected celebrity is driving the hype for DC’s next movie. :Tom Cruise.
According to a report from THR, the Top Gun and Mission Impossible star loved The Flash so much he called director Andy Muschietti to praise it.
The story began when Cruise had a meeting with the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, David Zaslav, who allegedly mentioned to Cruise how awesome The Flash was. Cruise asked to see the film, and Zaslav agreed, having an advance copy of the film sent to Cruise’s home in Beverly Hills. Shortly after Cruise finished the film, he contacted Muschietti.
According to THR’s sources, Cruise called The Flash “everything you want in a movie” and added that “this is the kind of movie we need right now.”
Tom Cruise received heaps of praise from Quentin Tarantino and Steven Spielberg for Top Gun: Maverick and its role in saving the box office, so it’s nice to see the star passing on some of the love.
For now, all we can do is take Cruise at his word, as The Flash isn’t expected to hit theaters until June 16th. The film is expected to juggle two versions of Barry Allen from Ezra Miller, Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck’s Batmans, and the arrival of Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl. The film will also mark the return of Michael Shannon’s Zod and Antje Traue’s Faora. The Flash also dealt with more than its fair share of controversy, due to Miller’s legal issues and questions about whether WB would stick with the actor.
