After a “Wheel of Fortune” contestant’s excitement nearly got the better of her for breaking a game show rule, host Pat Sajak stepped in with a sharp encore.
In a clip shared to the game show’s social media accounts on Tuesday, a contestant, whose badge read “Mary Ann”, banged hard on the wheel, giving it a big spin and landing on the coveted corner of a million dollars. dollars.
She squealed in delight, shouting “Oh my God”, and practically jumped up to grab the sparkling green tile.
But Sajak, ever the pro, jumped in to keep her on track with the rules of the game, which require her to guess a letter for the puzzle before picking up her prize.
“No, no, no, ba-ba-bo-bop,” exclaimed Sajak, 76, returning to gibberish to intercept the excited contestant’s attention. “Now here’s what you do. See, you call a letter.”
Mary Ann went with “H.” And what do you know – there were two in the puzzle.
“And because there are two Hs, you can now take the million-dollar corner,” explained a calmer Sajak.
The host then joked that Mary Ann could probably attribute her near-fake break to the adrenaline rush of an old-fashioned game show.
“You put a million dollars in front of someone, they just get clumsy,” he said with a smile.
Last “Jeopardy!” strains two players, but Twitter thinks it’s “pretty simple”: Can you fix it?
“Wheel of Fortune” fans reacted to the moment with amusement in the show’s Instagram comments.
