(CNN) Ed Sheeran has revealed his wife, Cherry Seaborn, was diagnosed with a tumor while pregnant with their second child.
In a diary entry – which was photographed by Annie Liebowitz and posted on Sheeran’s Twitter Wednesday – To announce his new album, the British singer-songwriter said a series of events early last year changed his life, his mental health and the way he views music and the art.
“Within a month, my pregnant wife was told she had a tumor, with no way of treatment before delivery. My best friend Jamal, a brother to me, died suddenly and I found myself in front of court to defend my integrity and his songwriting career,” Sheeran wrote.
Sheeran’s new album, “Subtract,” will be released on May 5.
Music entrepreneur Jamal Edwards died in February last year aged 31, his last Instagram post being a birthday message to his ‘brother’ Sheeran.
“Shape of You,” Sheeran’s 2017 hit song, landed the musician in court last year when he was accused of plagiarizing grime artist Sami Switch’s song “Oh Why.” He won the case in April 2022.
“I was going through a spiral of fear, depression and anxiety,” the artist continued. “I felt like I was drowning, my head below the surface, watching but unable to break through to breathe.”
He added that he had spent a decade “trying to sculpt the perfect acoustic album”, but within a week he replaced all that work with his “deepest, darkest thoughts”.
Sheeran said his new album, “Subtract”, which will be released on May 5it is “opening the trapdoor of my soul”.
“For the first time, I’m not trying to make an album that people will like. I’m just putting out something that’s honest and true to where I’m at in my adult life,” he said. -he adds.
The musician announced the birth of his second daughter in May on Instagram, writing that he and Seaborn are “so in love with her, and thrilled to be a family of 4.”
He did not comment further on his wife’s condition.
