Recording sickness absence - Part time and full time workers

We employ both full and part time people but so far have assumed that they all work 220 days a year for the purpose of calculating our sickness absence rate. For deciding how much time people have taken as sickness absence we take the total number of working days between the start and end of absence and again do not distinguish between full and part time employees. We now want to calculate the absence rate more accurately. How do others make these calculations where time recording is not normally undertaken without it becoming a major bureaucratic activity?
