Question 598 February 2008

Fire Evacuation Processes

Our headquarters building houses about 600 people on four floors, operating on a normal 9 to 5 basis. We have fire wardens trained to ensure complete evacuation of the building in the event of a fire alarm during the normal hours. We do not have a roll call process.
Security staff manage any fire incident between the hours of 7pm and 7am. Any office staff on site later than 7pm notify security of their presence.
The in-between times 5pm - 7pm and 7am - 9am are problematic, when there may not be adequate fire warden coverage to carry out a building sweep.
What processes do other organisations use to ensure building evacuation under these circumstances?
