Lifting Equipment inspections frequency - Didsbury Engineering

After the recently circulated report from the HSE after the fatality involving lift equipment a statement was issued by Didsbury Engineering. It stated that all man-riding and goods lifting hoists and winches manufactured by them must be returned every 12 months for thorough examination. After discussion with our "inspectors" they advised this is not necessary. What are other people doing? Are you following the Didsbury line of advice?
