Question 521 December 2006

Underground work gas risk - looking for experience and detector types

Our company has recently taken on meter reading work. To get to these we often have to access holes in roads or fields, or we work down shafts where confined spaces and gas are our biggest concerns. The gasses can include CO, CO2, Methane and possibly others.

Can any member working in similar areas recommend which gasses we should be concerned about and if possible which gas detectors they would recommend and why?
