Parking Space Policy of vehicles reversing - evidence of safety

A number of leading companies have a health and safety policy promoting or requiring that vehicles reverse into their parking spaces. Whilst intuitively this feels like a good idea, has anyone got any hard evidence or studies that illustrate/explain why this is deemed to be more safe?
