Question 54 April 2001

Use of Pneumatic Percussive Rivet Guns (Hammers)

Has any one established means of measuring the daily vibration dose received by those using Percussive Rivet Guns?

We have established vibration measurement, and set a time of 3 seconds per rivet "Trigger Time" from this we have concluded that to remain within the guidance as set out in HS(G)88 and give a safe margin, an operator can knock down 500 rivets in an 8 hour shift.

HSE are now asking for individual daily dose figures for every employee using a rivet gun. Does anyone know if there is an established method of doing this?
