Question 435 April 2006

Avian Influenza - Use of Face Masks

As part of our planning for the potential Influenza Pandemic we are considering the provision of face masks (FFP2) for those staff who come into contact with members of the public. From a risk assessment perspective they are probably not indicated and the World Health Organisation only suggests they be used for health care professionals but the media attention and our staff reaction is likely to be different and they may well believe that these will help.

Are any other members considering the use of disposable masks for their customer facing staff and if so what are their plans for issuing / disposal ?
