Question 47 February 2001

Control of contractors in assigned areas

A part of our factory was recently cordoned off for refitting by
contractors who were assigned the area under the CDM regs. During the
refit a serious accident took place to a contractor behind this 'white
curtain'. Responsibility for the accident is with the contractor but
also with us since it took place on our premises.

Have other companies experienced this problem and if so what procedures,
systems and monitoring standards have you implemented to control
contractors who have been assigned over areas of your premises?
