Question 377 August 2005

Laboratory Accidents

We have testing laboratories and compared to the rest of the business they have a high accident rate. Predominantly this is down to reporting of minor cuts and scrapes to hands, despite appropriate gloves being worn.
The staff feel it is important to report the accident due to the risk of contamination from the samples they prepare and handle.
Over the last three years on average their has been 2.5 reported accidents per month per 100 FTE.

Do any members have accident information specifically to Laboratories to which they might share to see whether we are abnormally high or unusual ?
