Question 375 August 2005

Homeworkers - electrical safety

A member asks the following question: ‘We have over 1000 homeworkers, supplying them all with electrical equipment such as PC's, fax machines, etc. We are currently reviewing our electrical safety procedures for these workers, so would like to hear from any members with a homeworker population.

What arrangements do they have in place to ensure equipment at home is electrically safe?

Do they arrange Portable Appliance Testing for homeworkers, and where does the testing take place?

Do any members know if we, as the Employer, have a right to enter their homes to carry out electrical safety inspections/testing of our equipment?

Thanks in advance for your time in considering our question.'
