Standing - Back Injury / Sickness

In workplaces e.g. retail outlets, department stores, where certain staff are expected to stand for long periods of time, is there any evidence of significant sickness caused by, or Personal Injury Claims resulting from, back (or other) injury caused by standing? Also, what rest periods (or other control measures) can be used to reduce the rigours of prolonged standing?
