Question 348 April 2005

Competence and resources for H and S

As a large FTSE250 company we have a small central H & S resource (Dip 2 level) and some business unit safety resource (varying levels of training). We would be grateful for other experiences of competence and resource, namely:

1. How many safety professionals per 1000 (or per 100) employees are employed in your organisation (centrally / operationally)?

2. Is a level of H & S training stipulated with a company policy?

3. What level of training is required for safety personnel?

4. How many QA and Env personnel are also employed centrally?

We fully appreciate that we have to determine levels of resource and competence by a risk evaluation process, however, it would be interesting to share the views of the Sheiiba community.
