Question 848 September 2015

Dynamic Risk Assessment

Over the past few months we’ve been talking to colleagues across our organisation about health, safety and wellbeing; what we do well and where we can be better.

Dynamic Risk Assessment (DRA) has come up as a positive in many of these conversations, with colleagues feeling the organisation is empowering and trusting them to use their individual judgement. However, there is a underlying concern that colleagues could interpret DRA as enabling them to ‘make it up as they go along’ without some proportional element of planning, etc.

Our intention is to re-launch DRA later this year, to help ensure colleagues are using DRA as intended. As part of this re-launch, and recognising we are an operationally diverse organisation, we’d like to show how other organisations use DRA as a way to reinforce the key principles.

Does your organisation use DRA as part of its management systems? Would you be willing to share your arrangements? Do you have any internal training materials (particularly videos) we could potentially use excerpts from?
